Most videogames have wisely givenModern Warfare 2a wide berth, to the point where I think a few of these 2010 delays have been decided specifically to avoid Activision’s all-dominating shooter and the chart-raping success it will surely have. Ubisoft, however, has thrown caution to the wind and will not be moved, claiming itfears nothingfrom Infinity Ward’sCall of Dutysequel.
“The first game we released two weeks afterModern Warfare, and we still sold 9 million copies,” boasts creative director Patrice Desilets. “People, when they want their first-person shooter fix, they buyModern Warfare. If you want you a swords, running on rooftops, big open city fix, this is it. And there are people that want to play that, and they don’t want to play the game with guns.”
Desilets also believes thatAssassin’s Creed 2has the same appeal as the original, but with all the frustration removed. Still, hats off to Ubisoft for sticking to its guns and daring to release at the same time as evil Activision’s latest big sequel. Will that doAC2harm, or will the game be just fine? What do you think?
