Mikey Neumann is writing it
We’re on the cusp of the release ofBattleborn, Gearbox’shobby-grade meta-growthshooter. Since it’s still an unproven IP and Gearbox’sotherreleaseshave been less than stellar, the game most on the mind of the people in the room at the studio’s PAX East panel is the nextBorderlands.
A few tidbits of information were given at the panel. Scott Kester, art director onBattleborn, will be shifting to art director on the nextBorderlands(which might or might not be calledBorderlands 3). Mikey Neumann (writer of the firstBorderlands) would be penning the script for the next entry in the series. He also discussed a brainstormed-but-not-finalized character Scooper, son of series staple Scooter.
Those details may have been scant, but Gearbox suggested more could be included inBattleborn. Studio head Randy Pitchford hinted, “There’s already a lot ofBorderlandsEaster eggs inBattleborn. But they’re all from previousBorderlandsgames. So what if we put Easter eggs for future stuff in the DLC?”Battleborncreative director Randy Varnelli responded, “We could do that.”
It sounds wishy-washy, but having been to a few Gearbox panels in the past, I can surmise this is one of those wink-wink not-announcements that turns out to be true. So there you have it, folks: if you want more information on the nextBorderlandsgame, all you have to do is buyBattlebornand its downloadable content. Or just wait for that stuff to show up on the Internet the next day.
