Arkham Knight, MKX do 5 million
BothMortal KombatandBatman: Arkham Knightlaunched with busted, largely inoperable PC versions. In the case ofBatman, it was so extreme that the game was delisted for sale on Steam and is still being patched and worked on four months later (it is still unavailable for purchase).
That didn’t hurt publisher Warner Bros’ bottom line, however. The brands are just too strong.
According toThe Wall Street Journal, “In the past few years, the studio has shot to the top, thanks to major hits including Batman: Arkham Knight and fighting game Mortal Kombat X, which have each sold more than five million units globally.”
Apparently WB’s movies are flopping while its games business is a big success. This year’sDying Light, another WB-published game, was also said to have hit5 million saleslast month, which means WB is stringing hits together. AssumingMad MaxfollowsFury Roadwindfall, the company could be having a hell of a year.
