Still shambling along
DayZ‘s development has been anything but rushed. The zombie apocalypse survival game first entered Early Access in December 2013. Ever since then, it has been in alpha. Now, nearly five years later,DayZenters beta on PC.
The important distinction between the two,as developer Bohemia Interactive says, is thatDayZ‘s content and features are mostly finished. Now, Bohemia needs to focus on the finer aspects such as optimization, balancing, and bug-squashing. Bohemia lists some major points of the beta as:
This milestone has been a long time coming. In May 2017, Bohemia first mentioned thatthe beta was a couple of updates away. As it turns out, that meant another 18 months. At long last, the alpha is finally in the rearview mirror.
While history tells us we shouldn’t get our hopes up, Bohemia indicates thatDayZ‘s beta might not be all that protracted. Its 1.0 release is still expected before the end of 2018. Maybe that’ll happen or maybe it won’t.DayZmoves at its own pace.
