Keep the Dogma going
Dragon’s Dogmais a strange series.
We’ve technically only gotten one mainline game from the great Hideaki Itsuno (who moved on toDevil May Cry 5after he headed it up), but the series has lived on for seven long years through the work of an expansion (Dark Arisen) and a Japan-only MMO. That MMO, appropriately titled “Dragon’s Dogma Online,” began life in August of 2015, and now it’s going to cease operations later this year. After the servers are offline, it wouldn’t voom if you put four million volts through it.
According to Siliconera, the official reasoning from Capcom is because “it would be too difficult to continue providing a service they consider satisfactory,” so it is shutting down on August 02, 2025. It had a good run, even topping out at 100,000 concurrent players close to launch, but apparently the playerbase hasn’t been large enough to warrant keeping it alive four years later. The game went out with a bang though, as it broughtthe incredibleBerserkcollaborationback from the main iteration late last year.
