EA Motive shifting its focus toIron ManandBattlefieldhas apparently disrupted development on a newDead Spaceremake, though Electronic Arts is denying the validity of that report.

On April 9, EA Motive, the studio behind theDead Space 1remake, wasreassignedto work on the Battlefield series. Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubreported, “They were working onDead Space 2, and they are no longer working on it. It is on the shelf because the first game had lackluster sales is how it was phrased to me.” Grub elaborated that the sequel was believed to have been in the pre-production phase before getting shelved. “If you were looking forward toDead Space 2,it’s bad news. Does this mean it never happens? I don’t know if that’s the case.”

It looked like all hope might have been lost, but an EA spokesperson toldIGN, “We don’t normally comment on rumors, but there is no validity to this story.” The story didn’t end there, as Grubbfired backand defended his original claim. “I give you my permission to believe EA if you want, but whenever a company says “that isn’t true” but they don’t specify which part of the story they are talking about, well … yeah.”

Grubb doubled down and reported that aDead Space 2remake was being planned, but isn’t being made now. It remains to be seen what EA has up its sleeve, and whether anotherDead Spaceremake is truly in the cards or not.
