Chris Avellone, the former chief creative officer and co-founder ofFallout: New Vegasdeveloper Obsidian Entertainment, has revealed that the company tried to make anElder Scrollsgame in a similar vein. In athreadconfirming an old tweet uncovered by80 Level, Avellone discussed details about the proposal.

This is true. One of the Elder Scrolls proposals (which I pitched) was intended to serve the same function as FNV did between F3 and F4, to provide more adventures in the setting during the years before the next Bethesda release.https://t.co/7yJNkn8cUY

The Elder Scrolls Online: An elf, warrior, and archer.

He alsocompared the ideato the way Infinity Ward and Treyarch handled alternateCall of Dutygames during that generation, with Bethesda developing a main game and Obsidian working on something that would offer moreElder Scrollsadventures, likeFallout: New Vegasdid for that series.

According to Avellone, the idea didn’t gain traction with Bethesda, and he suggests that theStarfieldstudio wasn’t happy with the reception thatFallout: New Vegasreceived, “good and bad.”

Wuyang OW2 ultimate

AlthoughFallout: New Vegashas become highly regarded over the years since its release, there was initially some backlash toward the gamedue to bugs and game breaking issues.

After years of patches and updates,Fallout: New Vegashas gotten the recognition that it deserves. It’s disappointing to think of what we could have had if this had ultimately panned out. It has been over a decade sinceThe Elder Scrolls V: Skyrimwas released, and itdoesn’t look like we’ll get to playThe Elder Scrolls VIanytime soon.

If only we had an Obsidian-developedElder Scrollsgame to fill the decade plus gap between releases. It seems like Bethesda missed a trick with that one. Maybe Obsidian’s (remarkablyElder Scrollslooking) fantasy RPG,Avowed, can fill that hole in my heart.
