The long wait for the PC release ofFinal Fantasy XVImay be over sooner rather than later, according tocommentsmade by producer Naoki Yoshida, but it seems as though the game will require some pretty hefty hardware in order to play.

The PC port ofFFXVIis currently in “the final stages of [optimization]”, according to Yoshida, who goes on to say that “in a game where loading speed is critical, a HDD would be a pain … please consider that an SSD is a must”.

In a recent discussion, Yoshida suggested that a demo for the game would be coming before the full release, which at least gives players a chance to test whether the game will run on their current setup.

There have been no solid words on the exact specifications that will be needed to playFF16on PC, but there’s hope that the current optimization process will lower the entry barrier in order to get more people playing.

With regards to a solid release date for the game on PC, Yoshida has said that “it won’t be too distant in the future”, before suggesting that we won’t be waiting more than 12 months, provided optimization goes smoothly.

Back whenFinal Fantasy XVIwas released on Playstation 5 in June 2023, it was very well received and earned high-scoring reviews. Clive will even be making an appearance inFFXIVduring the “The Path Infernal” collaboration event, set to take place in early April.
