Filmmakers offer praise for MGSV and look to the future
It should go without saying thatMetal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Painhad a great showing at E3.Not only was the official trailer a stellar piece of work, and a big indication of how grim the game will be, but the 30-minute gameplay presentationgarnered a lot of praiseand showed that the best is yet to come.
But the enthusiasm hasn’t stopped there. In a recentupdate on the officialMGSVwebsite, various filmmakers, actors, and producers offered their thoughts on the recent trailer. And of course,they were just as excited about it as we were.
For instance, Guillermo Del Toro (director ofHellboy,Pan’s Labyrinth, andPacific Rim) spoke very highly of the piece of media that was shown at E3.
“Kojima-San remains a massive inspiration for me andMETAL GEARcontinues to deliver the edgy, vital, jaw-dropping world and feel that we have come to expect but it pushes the envelope every single time. It is a window into the future of the medium and its breathless narrative and artistic expansion. Amazing!”
Following Del Toro’s praise was that of Danish filmmaker Nicholas Winding Refn – who directedValhalla Rising,Drive, andOnly God Forgives(this movie was great and I will fight anyone who disagrees). Refn in particular has a great friendship with Kojima,and even visited during production meetings in the UK.
“The trailers forMetal Gear Solid V, prove once again that Hideo Kojima is a master at portraying a wider and more complex view of human nature combined with breathtaking action sequences.”, said Refn. “A daring and bold move from one of the founders of the future of technology. WithMetal Gear Solid V, Hideo Kojima has created the perfect marriage of cinematic storytelling and cutting edge gaming technology. For me, it all culminates into one word: Genius.”
These were just a couple examples of the enthusiasm that came from filmmakers. Other talent such as Chan Wook Park (Oldboy,Lady Vengeance, andStoker), Norman Reedus (Daryl fromThe Walking Dead) and the producer of the film adaptation ofMetal Gear Solid, Avi Arad, also weighed in and showed optimism and excitement forMGSVand the future of the Video Game medium.
