A big change fromOctopath Traveler

If you’re exploring the vast world of Solistia, you might be wondering how secondary jobs work. After all, this was a major feature inOctopath Traveler. While the base jobs for every character are fun enough, mixing and matching everyone’s skills opens up so many build possibilities. Who knew that Olberic would make such a good Apothecary?

Fortunately, this system returns inOctopath Traveler 2. However, if you spend your opening hours looking for shrines to change your secondary job like inOctopath Traveler, you won’t find what you’re looking for. In fact, there are technically two new systems for secondary jobs that you’ll need to uncover. Here’s what you may expect.

Unlocking regular secondary jobs

If you’re looking to swap the eight characters’ base jobs around, you’ll need to look for guilds. Many of these can be found in towns, though some are hidden in overworld areas. When you discover a guild, you’ll instantly receive a license that allows anyone in your party to use the group’s respective job. It’s really that easy!

That said, there’s more to these guilds than getting a simple unlock. As far as secondary jobs go, you’ll receive two additional quests that will provide more licenses for your party to use. Combined, this allows up to three party members to use the same secondary job at once. If you were dying to have a party of four warriors just for fun, this is how you’ll make it happen.

It should be noted thatOctopath Traveler 2also adds new EX Skills to every character’s movepool. Though these skills are tied to everyone’s base jobs, they can’t be learned by characters using a respective secondary job. For example, Throné can learn a Thief EX Skill, but Partitio with the Thief Subclass cannot.

Unlocking special secondary jobs

In addition to the regular secondary jobs, there exists unique jobs that are totally separate from the eight starting jobs. ThoughOctopath Traveleralso had special jobs, you can begin to find these much earlier inOctopath Traveler 2. In fact, you can get the Inventor job within an hour of starting.

These unique job guilds have a few key differences from the normal guilds. For example, the Inventor can’t learn new skills by investing JP. They are instead tasked with collecting certain items to learn more moves. Special jobs also won’t award additional licenses for your party to use. Only one character can use these at a time, so choose whoever has the best synergy.

Fortunately, secondary jobs can be changed anytime. Feel free to experiment with different job combinations and find what works for you.Remember to take everyone’s Latent Powers into consideration if you’re looking for the perfect job pairing!
