Riot celebrates 10 years
League of Legendshas been around for nearly eight years now, but Riot was formed a decade ago. I know it’s hard for some people to grasp, playing a game for so long, but that’s just what I did withLeague, among several others. It’s a testament to the staying power of the MOBA and strategy genres, and the newly revealed numbers forLeaguesupport that.
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Riot has announced that the game has 103 million monthly users — of course it’s free, but since a lot of those people spend hundreds of dollars on skins a month, I’m willing to bet there’s still a lot of profit involved. As part of the festivities if you’ve logged into the game in the past 60 days you’ll get a new icon and a skin for Kayle — or, if you don’t currently own the character, you’ll get her for free.
