We’re a little over one month away fromMarvel Rivals’season three, but NetEase Games has begun to tease who and what will be coming when it launches on July 11.

As part of season two’s ongoing Cerebro Database 2 event, which was able to be finished yesterday, a new lore card in the Gallery has been unlocked, and it’s not-so-subtly hinting at who will be joining the roster or at least be a focal point of season three. It appears that Jean Grey, the Phoenix, is on her way.

The newest lore entry, fittingly titled “From the Ashes,” has the heroes discussing the events of what has transpired on Krakoa, but also urgently noticing that Knull has somehow survived, as several of them can sense the symbiote god’s presence.

“How are we supposed to confront one of the primal forces of the universe?” says Sue Storm, Invisible Woman, to which Namor replies “perhaps by calling on one of them ourselves.” And yeah, with the title of the lore along with the implication of a “primal force,” they’re definitely hinting at the Phoenix Force.

Jean Grey Phoenix

In the comics, the Phoenix Force is an immortal and indestructible manifestation of the prime universal force of life, but it is able to take a human (or mutant) host. And that host is inevitably Jean Grey, powerful psychic and X-Men member.

Jean Grey was datamined as a Duelist hero within the game’s files as far back as the game’s launch period in December 2024, so it’s not too big of a surprise that she’s coming. But with the latest lore entry, we now know that she’s likely coming in season three to kick off NetEase’s new release cadence of one hero per month.

The lore also likely means that Knull will be this season’s big bad guy, similar to Ultron in season two and Dracula in season one. We should know more soon about the new season in the coming weeks ahead of season three’s launch on July 11.
