Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Painmade $179 million globally on its opening day, according to Adobe Digital Index’s report on gaming trends. That’s more than double its $80 million budget. And to think, Konami wants to stop giving Kojima money and stop making console games altogether.

Worth noting that movies are generally judged via opening weekend numbers, whereinJurassic Worlddid $209 million,Avengers 2$191 million. Games, which release on Tuesdays, don’t exactly have an analogue. And, worth noting,Grand Theft Auto Vpulled in$800 million in day-one sales, thoughMetal Gearis pretty god damn niche, and more original and out there than most of game’s highest-grossers (sports, multiplayer shooters).
