One of the most notoriousAssassin’s Creedgames has found new life five years after launch. In the wake of the Notre Dame fire in Paris, Ubisoft ran a promotion where it gave awayAssassin’s Creed Unityfor free on PC. The Notre Dame cathedral is that game’s stunning centerpiece, after all.

People gobbled it up. Now that the giveaway is over,The Hollywood Reporterstates thatAssassin’s Creed Unityhas been downloaded more than three million times in the past week. Also, users took toSteamto “reverse review bomb” the game — leaving large swaths of positive feedback in response to Ubisoft’s promotion.

There are two Notre Dame angles that concern Ubisoft. The French publisher has pledged to donate €500,000 to help restore the church. Additionally, there’s talk thatAssassin’s Creed Unity‘s in-game recreationmight be used to help rebuild the Notre Dame cathedral.
