Valve just banned a record 95,000 Steam users this past week

Crushing July 2017’s 40,000 record There was a time where it was up to individual server moderations to ban their own users, but when matchmaking and unified PC storefronts took off it became the wild west. Valve has been attempting to combat cheaters for years with its VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat) technology, and in one fell swoop over 95,000 accounts were silenced (read: banned) last week. That crushes the previous record of 40,000 banned users last July....

Video game ghost stories #1: Man eater

Counting down until Halloween Journal Entry #1: We recruited a new member to our party today, but they’re a little… strange. We found them hanging out in a swamp eating frogs. At first, I thought it was an enemy, as their appearance startled me, but they seemed eager to join our team and we need all the help we can get. Let’s hope for the best! ~ The new recruit has turned out to be very useful in battle, although their tactics are rather unsettling....

Well, they did it: Square Enix remade the Final Fantasy VII box art

What a great original box Final Fantasy VIIhad one of those boxes: the ones burned in your brain decades later. I should know, as one of the chief ways my school playedFFVIIwas by bringing in the case with the game’s various discs (of three) to share between people as they completed each portion of it. Amazingly, I got all three discs back safe and sound eventually, but lost the case years later and had to purchase a “Greatest Hits” edition....

Xbox Live Gold two free games a month are yours to keep

Games on Gold Microsoft announced during their press conference this morning that they will start offering free games to Live Gold members starting next month. From now until the launch of Xbox One, members will get two free titles a month — not unlike Sony’s PlayStation Plus program. Nice. Some were concerned that these games might go away later during the transition, or as subscription status changes. Corporate vice president of Microsoft Studios, Phil Spencer, set our mind at ease during a showcase event earlier this evening....

You can get a free Sackboy banana costume in Sackboy: A Big Adventure now

Sackboy banana is a go PlayingLittleBigPlanetwhen it came out was a treat. The playerbase was flowing, level creations actually got some love, and the game itself was pretty fun, especially with a group. I’m glad that the series got at least three main entries and some spinoffs, but I’d really like to see it continued proper again on the PS5. While I muse over whether or not that’ll actually happen, we haveSackboy: A Big Adventurenow....

Board games are a fantastic way to bring families together or tear them apart, depending on what you play. Whether it’s a relaxing night of card games or an aggressiveMonopolymatch, there are hundreds of options for board games to play. Board games hold a special place in my heart. 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim has me breaking out a notepad just to keep track of everything

So many multi-syllable names to remember It’s been five years since Atlus and Vanillaware first revealed13 Sentinels: Aegis Rimto the world. After a couple of delays and a dropped platform, it launched last year in Japan to critical success. As a fan of the developer’s previous work, I’ve kept my eye on the title, but I’ve noticed enthusiasm toward it in the west has been relatively muted. The images that sprang to mind when we heard “Vanillaware is making a giant mecha vs....

A Hat in Time turns to Kickstarter for funding

PC “collect-a-thon” needs your money! One my most anticipated titles of the year.A Hat in Time, has just launched aKickstarter campaignwith a goal of $30,000. The game is a 3D platforming collect-a-thon for PC inspired by games likeMario 64, Banjo-Kazooie,andDonkey Kong 64. There are pretty much zero games that fit the genre on PC, and the genre as a whole has sort of died out recently. As far as Kickstarters go, game designer Jonas Kærlev has done exactly what I like to see: an informative video, a pie chart detailing where the money is going, and can show off gameplay enough to get me excited....

A really cheap bundle of Assassin’s Creed games highlights some decent Amazon deals

And a few other noteworthy items Amazon must’ve had a bunch of download cards left over following Microsoft’s holiday promotion featuring a reduced Xbox One bundle. Apart from several unsoldAssassin’s Creedpackaged consoles, how else could you explain the sale ofAssassin’s Creed UnityandBlack Flagfor a grand total of $30? Whatever the reasoning, that’s a pretty fair deal for two Xbox One games, especially given thatUnityis almost brand new (and supposedly properly patched up by now)....

Acquire wants you to guess what’s up with these boxers

Because they’re just lying right in the middle of Akihabara’s main road (and in all kinds of other places), and Acquire took the trouble of photographing them and setting upa teaser siteand twitter widget that allows you to tweet the pic along with the words “Akihabara x Trunks”.
