Asone of 2023’s infamously problematic releases,Payday 3has had to fight tooth and nail to eke out some stability for its players due to its always-online nature. Now, roughly three months after the game’s come out,Payday 3receives its first major expansion pack,Syntax Error.

Followingthe “long and complicated” period of patching,Payday 3developer Starbreeze Studios initially had to put its post-launch content plans on the back burner until the dust settled. That time has now come, from the looks of it, asSyntax Errorintroduces a high-tech new heist focusing on digital robbery. Alongside the heist, players also get three new weapons, and a suite of cosmetics to outfit their bandits with. The issue, though, is that it’s not all that affordable.

Payday 3: Syntax Erroris priced at $17.99/17.99€, which is relatively steep for what is, in effect, a single new level and a few new usable items. On Steam, players have called the DLC “underwhelming and overpriced,” which has led to a ‘Mixed’ rating for it. Granted, it does seem thatthe new heist is pretty good, but eventhose reviewerswho recommend it do not feel that it’s worth the baseline asking price.

Now, allPayday 3players who own the Silver or Gold editions of the game have received theSyntax ErrorDLC at no additional charge, which should help the bundle go down a bit easier in the grand scheme of things. Yet, this sets the stage for the game’s second DLC at the very least, as it too is bundled in with the Gold edition ofPayday 3, which might lead to poor ratings for it as well, regardless of its potential quality.

In the interim, for those who aren’t thrilled with the directionPayday 3is going in,the recently revealedDen of Wolvesmay be of interest. Not least becauseDen of Wolvesis being made by the devs of the infamously hardcoreGTFO, some of whom had previously worked on the originalPayday: The Heist.
