Remember when Phantasy Star Online 2was announced for the PC, anda few people were speculating that it would never see a western release?Well think again — Sega has just announced that they’re planning on bringing the free to play dungeon crawler to Europe and the US in early 2013.
For those of you who aren’t in the know,Phantasy Star Online 2is the official sequel to the hit 2000 Dreamcast gamePSO. It spawned many spinoffs, and the original itself was spawned from Sega’sPhantasy Starfranchise. Like the rest of the franchise,PSO2will not be an MMO, but rather an online dungeon crawler with a limited amount of players, similar to theDiabloseries.
Producer Satoshi Sakai had this to say about the game: “The number one thing we want to provide players inPhantasy Star Online 2is an adventure that changes every time they log in. Just as great table-top RPG experiences revolve around imaginative and unexpected encounters, we want players to consistently be surprised as they explore dungeons and undertake quests.”
If you’re so inclined, you may access the Japanese version right now, just by following community memberSir Tobbii’s YouTube guide. As a long time fan of the series, I couldn’t be more excited.
