After being denied a release on Wii’s Virtual Console, the final NESMega Manhasat long lastmade it to the American 3DS eShop. Before we graduate to the synth goodness of the SNES, let’s enjoy one last serving of native NES chiptunes with theMega Man 6 OST. For $8.95, you will score both the classic and PS1Complete Workssoundtracks, the latter which also includes “Kaze yo Tsutaete,” Roll’s vocal theme fromMega Man Battle & Chase.

This is the big one, guys. I may considerMM2my favoriteMega Mangame purely out of a sense of nostalgia, but by every other measure,MM6is my favorite of the Classic series — andhere’s the proof. It’s such a shame that franchise fatigue prevented most players from truly appreciating how polished the last NES outing was.

AmongMM6‘s many triumphs was its soundtrack, rich in international flavor. Each of the Robot Masters hailed from a different country, and their theme songs reflected their homelands — the Middle Eastern sound of Flame Man’s domain, the imperial rhythm of Yamato Man’s castle, and even the steady horse clopping on Tomahawk Man’s reservation. Much, much, MUCH improved overMM5‘s rather sleepy tunes.

So yeah, this release gets my seal of approval big time.
