It’s typical in many classic-styleSonicgames: Gathering all the Chaos Emeralds awards you with one last, secret battle.Sonic Superstarsnaturally follows suit with a true final boss fight, and the ‘Last Story’ you need for it is unlocked in the usual way — with onesmall hurdle.
AnySonicfan worth their salt will accurately guess that finding all seven Chaos Emeralds is paramount to getting that coveted true ending. They’re right. ButSonic Superstarsis a bit more demanding. Getting all the Emeralds is merely one step in a multi-stage journey to unlock the Last Story chapter inSonic Superstars.
Sonic Superstars‘ final boss battle unlocks after you beat the game twice
Here’s what you need to do to play Last Story and the true final boss fight ofSonic Superstars:
Once you finish the three steps, Last Story will appear in the game’s menu. You play as Super Sonic, who faces off against the game’s greatest foe: A big, purple dragon.
Wait, what? Right. So, I don’t recall a big dragon being a major plot point in the game, but here we are. The true final boss ofSonic Superstarsis a dragon who just kind of showed up. Oh, well.Weirder things have happenedin this franchise.
You might Trip on this hurdle
It’s not as easy as I make it sound, mind. Trip’s Story stars the adorable sungazer lizard as she races through the story missions while fighting the Egg Robo and Fang (instead of Eggman). The levels are much more challenging, featuring changes that take advantage of Trip’s double jump and wall-clinging abilities. There are also more enemies, spikes, and a different final boss encounter. And I’ve been playing games for decades, but that last fight against Fang really kicked my ass. If you’re going for the true final boss ofSonic Superstars, you may swear the title belongs to him.
