Quick look videos spotlight Abe’s weird world
Tomorrow sees the return of one of gaming’s weirdest and quirkiest franchises. It’s been a long time coming, butOddworld: Soulstormwill see brave Mudokan Abe stand against impossible odds to save his people from slave labor at the greasy hands of the Glukkons.
Developer Oddworld Inhabitants has released a quadrilogy of videos, focusing on various elements ofOddworld: Soulstorm. From the stealth gameplay and “follower management” of previous titles, to new looting and crafting mechanics. The four videos offer fans a taste of the epic adventure to come. Described as a “re-take” of 1998’sAbe’s Exoddus, Soulstormis a fresh sequel to the franchise’s original release,Abe’s Oddysee, and will follow Abe and his friends as they continue their quest for liberation.
The digital version ofOddworld: Soulstormlaunches tomorrow, April 6 on PS4 and PS5. The PS5 edition will be available to download as one ofApril’s PlayStation Plus offerings. Additionally, anybody who purchasesSoulstormfor PS4 will be able to download the PS5 edition free of charge, should they upgrade their platform at some point.Oddworld: Soulstormwill hit store shelves on July 6, so there’s still quite a wait for physical release fans.
Oddworld: Soulstormalso launches on PC tomorrow via Epic Game Store. Oddworld Inhabitants has released the specifications for the PC edition, which are as follows:
Minimum requirements:Windows 7 64 Bit, Intel Quad Core 1.7Ghz, an Nvidia GTX 670 card (or equivalent), and 8GB RAM.
Recommended requirements:Windows 10 64 Bit, an Intel Quad Core 2.3Ghz processor, and Nvidia GTX 970 card (or equivalent), and 16GB RAM.
WhileOddworldhas always been something of a cult franchise, there have been very few, if any, series entries that have not delivered the twisted humor, quirky characters, dark lore, and engaging puzzle-platforming gameplay that its audience loves. Given the praise and acclaim that met 2014’s “re-take”New ‘n’ Tasty, it stands to reason thatSoulstormis going to have been worth the wait.
