We’ve gotten apeek at what Joaquin Phoenix will look likeas “Arthur,” who we know will turn into the Joker inhis own origin movie. Courtesy of director Todd Phillips, we now have a look of Phoenix in his full-on Joker costume, and you can bet that he smiles like a total creep.

I’ve had my doubts about this projectfrom its inception, but the video itself is promising. The song from “The Guess Who” is a cool way to convey that the film will be a period piece, and Phoenix looks quite unhinged both pre and post-transformation. The make-up looks a bit more clownish-Ceasar Romero than psychotic-Heath Ledger, and definitely different fromwhatever Jared Leto was. I’m surprised that we received this look so early on during production, but leaks were likely imminent as filming is well underway.
If this first look was enough to get you on board, then you can look forward to the Joker origin film’s release on July 13, 2025.
